Mwabwindo School

Selldorf Architects

Mwabwindo School in Zambia was designed by Selldorf Architects for 14+ Foundation.  The project was completed and opened for classes in 2018.  The building’s design is inspired by the tall, singular trees on the surrounding savanna that serve as gathering spaces shaded from the sun of the Central African Plateau. A large, corrugated metal roof canopy covers a village of mud-brick classrooms arranged around courtyards and an internal street. In addition to the school which serves over 200 primary school students, Mwabwindo School includes a teachers’ housing village of structures, a community vegetable garden and playing fields.  Student uniforms were designed and produced by Studio One Eighty Nine in Ghana, Africa.
